Mike Hoye and his 3-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Maya, regularly play Zelda: Windwaker together, Yahoo! Shine reported. Players of the game can opt to change the name of the main character from Link to something else, but for Hoye, that wasn't enough.
and my favorite quote from the article:
Of course, not every dad is a computer programmer so we can't all do this but we can always make sure our daughters know they can be and do anything they want.

(11,364 posts)She would have no reason to assume Link was a boy. She can't read the text herself yet, so he could just substitute "her" for "him" as needed. The article claims he found doing that "annoying", but it's a lot easier than hacking the game. I think he just wanted a challenge.

(47,675 posts)My wife's now a 3rd degree black belt and our three daughters are all 2nd degree. Nobody messes with them. They're also high GPA sorts. The girls (well, they're all women now) know fully well that they're just as good if not better than any man. This attitude will serve them well.

(110,159 posts)already learning roles gender plays. this father did something outstanding. good for him. and carries even more weight that the father did this, validating his daughter with his approval that active is a huge thumbs up.
i am impressed with this father.
and you
and my father, that did the same with me. same expectations in my sport, that he had for my two brothers.

(47,675 posts)That was sort of weird because he was a WW-II vet, a generation removed, and had a rather progressive attitude. My wife is NOT someone you want to mess with!!! I'm not one of those "have to have a boy kid" guys. I'm proud of my wife and three daughters and they're just as good (if not better) than any men, including myself. My wife's superior to me in every way except for math and computer programming. I own those two areas.
