I will be making cornbread dressing for Thanksgiving.
My Grandmother made the best dressing ever.

My dressing is ok, but nothing like my Grandmothers.
Of course she had fresh eggs to add, I don't.
She had this huge pot to cook it in.
I would have loved to have tasted it cooked in the old wood burning stove she had before gas.
Also a fresh killed chicken didn't hurt.
Fresh chicken broth.

(41,991 posts)We often had ham rather than turkey but that great dressing was something else. And talk about not wasting leftovers, the ham came from a man who was a customer of hers and took the cafe's leftovers for his pigs every day. We "recycled" them, so to speak.
Edited to add I'd have liked to taste dressing from that woodstove too!

It was a monster stove, must have been really hot in the summer.
