Doesn't seem too busy, but you can never tell. Problem is, this time of day, if they're going to
admit me, they might not have a spare room.

The ER "beds" are less comfortable than the regular hospital beds.

Might not have to stay, though.

No word yet -- vitals are fine, but it'll be the EKG that counts. And they're too busy to
get to THAT stage very quickly.
.
They've gotten better -- new expanded ER facilities and all. Many years ago, when I
first started having these problems, I came in not with just shortness of breath, but
SERIOUS difficulty in breathing.
.
There were cases more serious and immediate than mine, but I started noticing some
that didn't SEEM to fit that descriptions.
.
I was there for either 7 or 9 hours (I don't remember) and all they kept doing was
checking my vitals every 30-60 minutes or so. Finally, when I was in back, I told them
that I was in radio (had been) and it looked like they were woefully understaffed and
might benefit from some publicity about the problem.
.
In other words... maybe I could help. (It was pure bullshit -- I didn't really know
anyone who would have that wide an audience who could have "helped" .
.
But I WAS seen by the doctor within 10 minutes and admitted within 30.
.
.
.
And my problem at that time, just as I suspected, was very serious and needed
immediate help.
.
.
.
This. Meh. I've become pretty jaded and (heh) hard-hearted about the whole ordeal.
.
.
.
More later -- maybe much later.

Systematic Chaos
(8,601 posts)I just dislike the way you treat the community at times, with all the GBCW threads and crap like this.
Take a close look at my signature and that little ticker down there. I used to weigh over a quarter of a fucking ton and it is a minor miracle that I'm only as sick and decrepit as I am as I slowly creep towards my 44th birthday -- and believe me I have more than a few problems to contend with, and will continue to even as I approach a proper weight.
So I understand and have a lot of sympathy for the things that you are going through. You're not a small guy, but you're not the buffalo I was, so at least there's that!
But dude, being morbid and lashing out at the community isn't constructive. I'd fully expect a lot of people to get pissed at me and call me out on it if I got like that. Frankly there is a much better approach! Keep us all apprised of your situation for as long as you can, but don't be a dork about it. Please?

Seriously, dude, glad you had the presence of mind to get medical help. Too many people think that it's just a spell that will pass. When one has a history of health issues, it never pays to take chances.
So, if you behave yourself, you will be rewarded -- maybe even with a sponge bath.

I have been kinda quietly, privately freaking out for a little while now -- I haven't even
told my close IRL friends until today about it.
.
I have been covered by COBRA insurance from the insurance at work that I lost in June
2011 -- right after my open-heart surgery. That's the exact same insurance -- except
my employer didn't cover any of the premiums. GOOD insurance but...
.
It expires tomorrow.
.
Arizona, bless its Republican asshole- (is that an oxymoron, or justabunchamorons?)
dominated state legislature, has deemed its AHCCSS program (med insurance for
low-income and indigent folks) unavailable for single adults without dependents.
.
So I've been looking at no safety net... and such a long, long way to fall.
.
Granted, there's the "Fucking Immortal" thing -- but who wants to be F.I. if your quality
of life is gonna suck stale bagels for all eternity.
.
A wonderful, WONDERFUL social worker here at the hospital REALLY put together a
"help packet" for me at lightning speed... talking with my doctors and some lesser-
known aid programs.
.
Partially because I'm known as an exceptionally NICE patient (so much for your "yeah,
he CAN be an irritating asshole, Kali -- which is pretty much *so true but so what*!!!),
she's agreed to keep seeing me at a greatly reduced rate.
.
This SW got my needed prescriptions for the foreseeable future written up AND found
me an affordable program to help pay for them. She even made me an appt with my
PCP iin two weeks.

This woman was a SMOKIN' HOT credit to her profession!!!!!!!
