(2,584 posts)Mr. Zappa must've had me in mind, when he quipped that quote.
I LOVE to read. I often refer to myself as a book-a-holic.
I can tell when I am getting book withdrawals and need another fix...I start reading the backs of packages while I'm in the kitchen cooking...over, and over...

(6,127 posts)Thank God for my local library, my friends who read and those trade-a-book boxes at supermarkets and in doctor's waiting rooms. (Every once in a while, they have a few good books). Lately, I've been re-reading books I read in high school during the Stone Age. I find that, instead of pretending I understand them, I actually do! Some books are better the second time around.
One thing I can't do now that I've grown old is read two books at one time.
Do you have a local library you can go to in your time of need?

(21,020 posts)way back.
Learning how to read opened up a whole world for me, even in 1st grade. My parents fed my love of reading by giving me books and giving me money to buy books through my grammar school.
I can't even conceive of how some people don't enjoy reading. For me, it's like food, or air.
Totally necessary for happiness, if not survival. If I couldn't read another book, ever, life wouldn't have much meaning.
I have such a fear of running out of reading material that I keep adding to my Kindle Fire, which currently has over 800 books.
OK, just checked my Amazon Kindle account...900 books.

I just realized that I have 104 pages of items on Manage My Kindle (it includes my audible.com account). I think it comes to about 1,446 items. I have so much on Manage My Kindle that when I do Kindle downloads from th3 library I delete it off my account as soon as I return a book.

(15,552 posts)to read all the books I want to read. I gave up on keeping a list any longer. The list was growing faster than I could read!
I, too, can't imagine what life without reading would be like. I have always had this philosophy that if you can read you can learn anything you put your mind to.
