Roasted cabbage

Last edited Fri Dec 14, 2012, 07:26 PM - Edit history (1)

We're trying it tonight.
The recipe from al.com:

"I cut the cabbage in quarters, lay each flat on its side and with an angled slice, removed the core. I then turned them on their backs (with the inner leaves facing up), drizzled them with olive oil, sprinkled with salt and pepper and topped each with half of a slice of thick-sliced peppered bacon.

I roasted them for about 35 minutes at 425 degrees. As the bacon fat renders out, it slowly bastes the cabbage. And the pretty curly edges of the leaves get golden and brown and crisp."

We'll see.

They wrinkle their noses, and leave early, so I get to eat it all. Cabbage cooking just has a way of ridding your home of unwanted folks.

I love cabbage. Wish I had gotten my mother's stuffed cabbage recipe from her before she died. Others I've found just aren't the same.

Very flavorful and there was no cabbage smell in the house.
Leaves were al dente, not mushy.
And bacon makes EVERYTHING better.
