Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsJust got a red bulb for the lamp in my bedroom. According to the
http://mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=148477&messages=2"Nature of Things" on CBC television, white light includes blue which is wake up light. A red light encourages melatonin which fights off depression, cancer, obesity, and sleep problems. I read or watch a video he post until 3AM. So, if I do it with a red light perhaps I will be healthier. Afterall sunsets are red while at dawn the sky is very blue. Makes sense that I have been messing with my body by keeping such late hours with artificial white light.

(53,661 posts)Alarm clocks, etc. Thanks for the idea of actually doing something while awake with the red light. I'll try one of those. I do have a tibetan rock salt lamp with a sort of pinkish glow.
Our dearly beloved -by me, anyway- commie light company came in and replaced almost all the lights with CFLs that don't hum. For free and they did all the work. They take a while, but it's like midday sun in the tropics once they get going. Extremely white light. Which is good as we don't get much daylight here.
They are just as good as the full spectrum lamps I bought to reset my internal clock and ward off clinical depression symptoms and all of that you talked about there. I still have them, but with these others I don't know if I will use them now. They did the job. Directions were to use them for not less than half an hour to an hour in the morning to reset one's sleep cycle, maintain concentration, etc.
It was humbling to realize sunlight was effective to combat symptoms as I don't use medication. I grew up in an area nearer the equator and didn't realize what I was missing for a long time. I love the higher latitudes but it was affecting me.
