I used to get colds at the drop of a hat, but since I started doing a few things, I've hardly gotten any.

I'm not prescribing...
but I find that ginger tea makes me feel a lot better when I have a cold, and seems to keep me from getting sick if I drink some when the first symptoms appear.

Drinking extra water when the heat is on in your home is important. Otherwise the mucous membranes get irritated and become more susceptible to infections.

I carry around a trial-sized bottle of alcohol-based hand sanitizer in my purse and refill it as needed. The most important times to use it are after touching a shopping cart or PIN pad, or touching the pump handle and pin pad at a gas pump, because these are loaded with germs.

That said, I hope you start feeling better ASAP. A cup of hot tea with honey & lemon is also great, if you don't have ginger tea handy.

Actually kinda crappy today. I'll live.

Ginger tea? Can you just steep of fresh ginger root in hot water? I've got a piece on my counter, destined for a stir-fry dish last weekend that never happened.

Fresh is best. Peel the ginger root and put a piece about 1 inch by 1 inch in a cup and add boiling water.

BTW You can store fresh ginger in the freezer, in a zip plastic bag.

Northerners are almost always deficient in D.

I use Airborne at the first tiny inkling of scratchy throat or stuffy head. It works for me. EmergenC is another brand that works for some peeps.

A cup of hot chicken broth or soup might help you sleep, too.

If not, there's always Nick at Night.

The husband just got over a bad cold. I started popping zinc as soon as he said he was sick. I got a little bit of it, but only lasted a day or two.

Feel better and celebrate when you do!

(pre-emptive edit, heh...I typed 'fell batter' and cracked myself up. )
