My secret santa is a collector of gnomes, and I found this adorable leprechaun statue, and I really don't know if she'll know the difference or not. They both kinda look alike to me....both wear hats, most have beards, and they're both supposed to bring good luck. Anything else?? and is there a difference. http://www.google.com/search?q=pictures+of+gnomes&hl=en&tbo=u&tbm=isch&source=univ&sa=X&ei=JCHLUN7bDc6pqQGo34CwDg&sqi=2&ved=0CDMQsAQ&biw=1450&bih=857 http://www.google.com/search?q=pictures+of+leprechauns&hl=en&tbo=u&tbm=isch&source=univ&sa=X&ei=RCHLUOWkKoq2qQGD1YG4Dg&sqi=2&ved=0CC8QsAQ&biw=1450&bih=857 Ooops, now I see different hats.

But they all seem to be variations on the same critter.

(50,562 posts)They're from Ireland, and hide pots of gold at the end of rainbows. Gnomes are from northern Europe, no gold, no breakfast cereal.
When brought to America, leprechauns, who work independently, vote Republican in large numbers. Gnomes, who work in groups, vote for Democrats. But they probably wouldn't have voted for Barack O'bama, a good Irish boy from Killarney.
