I've seen some guys try to put an entire teaspoon of this Trinidad Scorpion in their mouths, and they got seriously messed up as a result. Know your limits.

Thanks for watching!

And what's going to happen when you have to go to the bathroom in a day or so?

About a year ago, I participated in Travel Channel's Man v. Food "Vampire Wings" challenge when it visited a food festival in Dallas. Those chicken wings were insanely stupid hot. There was definitely more than one pepper at play there - probably cayenne for slow burn, bhut jolokia for sheer heat, habanero for a little tasty burn - but I never had any problems in the bathroom. It was my eyes!

An hour after the challenge, I decided to stand in front of a misting fan in order to cool off a bit. As soon as the mist hit my eyes, they snapped shut as though I took a face full of pepper spray from a cop. I had to stand in from of that mister for 10-15 minutes, forcing my eyes open in order to wash the chile pepper out of my tear ducts!

That said, I had a wonderful time meeting the Travel Channel folks there. No Adam Richman, sorry, but I did get a collector's T-shirt for finishing the challenge.

I have had my bouts with hot sauces. I love them, but they can really mess up your stomach the morning after. If you have ever been to Jamaica, they have hot peppers on all the tables and you will know what hot is after eating one.

but I swear, the worst time I ever had was an ordinary canned picked green jalapeno - the kind that come with carrot slices. It was down in Chihuahua at this little store/lunch stand and we had kind of homestyle turkey salad tortas with a few slices of jalapenos on the side. I felt that thing the whole way. Real gastrointestinal anatomy lesson. Never had that experience again and I am pretty sure I have eaten much hotter things - habeneros are about the hottest around here that you can get fresh, but sometimes you come across a damn green (anahiem) that makes you sweat and pant.

Jalapenos are weird that way. They're tasty, they do have heat, but usually the heat is manageable - I eat sliced jalapenos with nachos all the time, and sometimes on cheeseburgers. But once in a while, there's this one japaleno that'll sneak up and bite you in the butt.

Hi Derby,
Thanks for posting this, funny stuff. Why didn't you go for some milk right away? Doesn't dairy kill the burn?

Peace

Not quite the same as milk, but it's got dairy, and it did feel rather good after a couple of mouthfuls.
