For a coupla days preceding one Christmas when I was 8-yrs-old or so, our parents kept telling us
that some other parents were going to be dropping off their newborn child for us to take care of
over the holidays.
.
We couldn't figure out just WHO would do this or why -- right at Christmas.
.
Christmas Eve, they introduced us to that freshly-weaned baby... who became part of our family --
a beautiful medium-to-large collie puppy who had been part of a farm litter.
.
We had a contest to determine her name and I won with the answer to the riddle above.
.
Sandy Claws. Sandy, for short -- and she was everything you could want in a childrens' dog --
friend, playmate, protector and a very very good listener. She was much-loved and is still
much-missed.

(35,688 posts)What could possibly happen?
I am reminded of a fellow DU-er's story about the night before he was to take his oral exams for his Ph.D. As he tried to drift off to sleep, he could hear his cats playing with the ornaments on the tree. Every few minutes, the crash of an ornament.
It's inevitable trouble--kinda' like the kitty upthread with the yellow ball of yarn.
Years ago my kitty took down a Norfolk Island pine that I was using as a tree. Here's a story page I put up about it. Note her little ears peaking out from in back of the pillow on the second photo. She knew she was in trouble.
Thanks for the Sunday laughs, SCE!

(47,487 posts)The kitty in the shoe - we feed squirrels in our back yard. One summer I was cleaning boots, scraping the remaining mud, letting them dry. When I collected them back, there were a few nuts "buried" there.
But I did cringe at the kitty in the washing machine. Please don't. Too many of real instances when kids? - not sure - thought it was fun to put a pet in the washer. Or drier.
Thanks, again and enjoy the rest of Sunday.

(14,120 posts)Well Done SCE! I posted Fido Friday late Thursday evening so I did not add anything for Sandy Hooks. And I though that kicking it with an add on would be bad since it was a tribute to a K9 officer killed in the line for duty here in Tucson. I was worried that it would be just bad taste all around with so many hurting due to gun violence to add more to it..This weeks LOLCats is perfect! Tasteful 100%!

(9,298 posts)Loved that one and The Great Catsby and the black kitty hiding in the tree. But I'm partial to black cats anyhow. Had a wonderful one named Kato who was with us 13 years. Found him and 5 tiny littermates down by the ocean in Long Beach, CA. Tiny, tiny - all needed bottle feeding. Luckily, found homes for all of them, but had to keep Kato. How did we get his name? Took awhile, but during the O.J. trial when Kato Kaelin took the stand, we said, "That's it!"
Thanks for another great line-up, Salmon. Have a wonderful, restful Sunday.
