I'm watching "Miracle on 34th Street" for the umpteenth time (thanks, AMC) and I've been thinking...

.
... what an incredible director it must have had to draw out some pretty amazing reaction shots
from the little girl who had such serious doubts about the existence of Santa Claus.

.
After having seen it 4 or 5 times over the last week or so, I finally realized that the little girl in
question was an 8-year-old Natalie Wood. What promise she showed (and fulfilled) so early in
her life.

besides Natalie Wood, the acting of John Payne who seems so at ease, some of the looks that Edmund Gwynne gives and never says a word.
It was a simple story where no one tried to grab the screen all for themselves.
I think the first time I saw it was 1957 or so. And Christmas ain't Christmas without Kris Kringle.

One other things - the New York accents by some of the bit players - like the baliff - "Hear ye, hear ye, all who have business before this coit (court) step foiwahd (forward) and be hoid (heard)." Gives it a sense of realism.
