Here's the Billboard #1 from the week of my birth on March 17, 1969.

that one since 1967, but I heard it enough times that I am immediately transported to that year, and I could probably sing it word for word if I weren't laughing so hard.

CKLW! I lived 100 miles southwest of Detroit but we could pick up CKLW on our transistor radio LOL!! When I was a kid they actually called my name on the air and I had x number of seconds to call back and win a prize. Unfortunately I was in school when they called my name so I couldn't call back and all I got was a box of Marathon bars.

I remember most of these. Great songs. A lot of them stand the test of time too.

Fourteen years old then-knew every word as I sang while I danced-and I danced every chance I could! Those were wonderful times....

Especially because I reported for Army induction in March '67, and I don't remember having the chance to listen to music much at that time.

The Association's 'Windy' wasn't one of my favorites of theirs, but I'd been a charter member of their fan club, saw them perform a bunch of times, and interviewed them several times for my HS newspaper. When I was editor-in-chief, I even wrote an editorial that cited their lyrics (from their song, 'Enter the Young'). And when I learned from friends on Student Council that the act for a school concert fell through at the last minute, I was able to whip out the card of the Association's business manager...so they ended up performing at my HS.

I didn't get to Vietnam until '69, but #2--'The Letter' by the Box Tops--was still a huge favorite with the troops there (naturally).

The only one on the list I don't remember: 10. Love’s Gone Bad – Underdogs.

Garage band. All the rest - sublime memories.

The OP list is from a local radio station in Detroit. Here are a couple of the national lists:

Esp. on the coasts.
The "Top Ten" in Seattle was slightly different than the "top Ten" in New York, back then.
On the West coast, there was not as much funk, or Memphis sound, or blues, in the 50's and 60's.
Had to discover all that for myself years later.

I also love how YouTube brings up other songs by these artists. Different areas of the country had different songs that were the top hits.

I found some other good ones from these artists, even if maybe they weren't from the same year: Draggin' the Line, by Tommy James and the Shondells; Cherokee Nation by Paul Revere and the Raiders; Crystal Blue Persuasion by Tommy James and the Shondells...oh, man, those days were so great...I could go on and on.

Sigh...I miss the good parts of the good old Sixties.

Oh my gosh. I was LITTLE then though. I had an older sister so I knew a lot of the music. I'm not that old. I'm trying to rationalize why I own so many of these songs but but but...

Thanks, Faygo Kid! 1964 to 1967 were my favorite years. Wish I could do them over again, I'd do it in a milli-second. The songs do bring it back though -- I stayed into "the classics" since they were new.

I'll say one thing -- we knew how to throw a dance then, and we weren't ashamed to be romantic. (Btw, those who don't know about slow dancing are really missing out.)

and of course via internet we can easily listen to and collect any songs we want.

Best yet, Simon and Garfunkel, The Beach Boys, Mommas and Poppas, and of course the Beatles and 'Stones, Bob Dylan, etc
have become bedrock icons, not to be forgotten in the dusty memory of yesteryear's music.

We made so much history, on so many levels.

I was 11 years old and had two older brothers. Today everyone who defends today's garbage says the same thing..."There's great stuff out there, you just have to look for it." Well, back in the 60's we didn't have to "look for it".

back then. Wonderful thing about the arts....no wrong answers - just what floats each of our boats.

Listen to Radio Paradise (streaming) and you can get exposed to superb music throughout the entire span of rock music (and its offshoots). Maybe it is my two girls who exposed us to so much good music that we continue to look ahead, and only occasionally look back.
