I fell asleep about half an hour before the end and woke during the credits, so I rewound the DVD and tried a second time, but I fell asleep again.

Not a big fan of the original, to be honest, but even so the remake was a great disappointment.

I figured that since it had my old girlfriends Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel in it, it couldn't be that bad...

expecting a true remake. I expected an cheap, action-filled reboot.

On that basis, it was enjoyable. Would I purchase it, no.

"We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" by Philip K. Dick. It's infinitely better than either movie.

I just wish Rod Sterling had done it as a Twilight Zone episode!

Which is what really makes the story stick in my head. Plus, the short story did not have all the action stuff. While I like a good action flick, I do like to have a plot to justify it. The original used the premise of the story while leaving out the best part, in my opinion.

Way better than the first movie but the technology wasn't as good back in the 80s.

But the thing is this - it was all special effects. Instead of Mutants we had Star Wars Storm Troopers circa movies 1-3 (they weren't even good robots). There was no Mars, there was exactly one mutant (which paid respect an interesting scene from the first movie) and the acting was horrible. Kate Beckensdale was actually pretty decent - she was really a combination of Lori (the wife) and Ritchter (Coohagan's goon) (those parts were played by Sharon Stone and Michael Ironside in the first movie). Jessica Biel was just awful, I was kinda hoping she'd die in the end (She was Melina). I think the reason the first 2 women worked so well in the first movie was because you had such a difference - you had California blonde as Sharon Stone and Dark Exotic Rachel Ticotin as Melina. Beckensdale and Biel just looked like sisters or something. I think it would have been better to have cast a blonde as Melina - do a role reversal and bring in someone like Kate Hudson or Cameron Diaz to play Melina.

The one neat thing in the movie - if you saw the currency they had Obama's face on it. I'm sure that would piss of teabaggers

A remake without the benefit of Paul Verhoeven's exceptional talents isn't going to be worth watching.....
