Backing out of parking space (me).
Bump into car parked illegally (lights off, no one in car, no caution lights) in a fire lane (other guy).
My fault?
Other guy?
No fault?
Any insurance agents, adjusters, bad drivers - comment?

(10,749 posts)Responders one and two are probably right. FYI, the police, whom I called, did not issue any citations. Yes, I had a moving violation, but the other guy was illegally parked, so from the cop's point of view it's a wash. I don't know how that will play out with the insurance company.
We both have insurance, and I have one of those fault excuse provisions, so I can use that to avoid an increase in premiums. But I can't help but wonder whether it's worth pursuing with my insurance company further if they find me at fault. Probably not. That's life.

(12,693 posts)If you both have collision coverage, your insurance will pay for your car and the other person's will pay for their car.
If necessary, the determination of "fault" or more accurately what percentage of responsibility is assigned to each involved party will be figured out by the adjusters. And that would only be an issue if the other person doesn't have collision coverage and decides to make a claim against you.
