Running toward a goal is a LOT BETTER than running away from a problem.

As of 01/01/2013, I started jogging. I haven't done that since my 20's.

Picture this, 6 am on a cold Michigan morning, pitch dark save the street lights. Temp 18 degrees, spitting snow, windchill of 6 degrees. Pavement half snow covered. I'm out there in a fluorescent green Nike hoodie and a new pair of New Balance cross trainers. Strobing LED armband so I don't get hit by a car. 'Overexposed' by Maroon 5 on the iPod. Did about half a mile, walked another half mile.

It was FUCKING AWESOME.

Running toward for once, not running away.

It was about -5 out this morning when I made myself go back out into the cold to go to a spin class at the Y. It wasn't easy, I really wanted to climb into bed with my two kitty bed warmers.

No way would I have stayed out in that cold, I am in awe of you!

But I have to run at an indoor track. I just can't take the cold air in my lungs. I'm proud of you for setting a goal and sticking to it!

For some reason, an indoor track is one of the few things my gym doesn't have, seems like a pretty fundamental thing, too. Spa, cafe, store yes, track no.

One is at the Y. It'll do in a pinch, but 20 laps = 1 mile so you can see how small it is. It seems like you're always in a turn and the turns kind of slope down so it's a little hard on the knees.

The other one is at the college and if you're a member of the Y you can use their facilities. That track is much better. 8 laps = 1 mile and the surface is kind of soft. You can really tell a difference.

I just found an old Bee Gees cd at the thrift store here for $3. I downloaded it to itunes and loaded onto my shuffle. I kind of laugh to myself thinking if some of the 20 year olds at the gym knew what I was listening to they would be rolling their eyes.

From the Beatles to Rihanna, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Duran Duran, Springsteen, to Maroon 5 and Linkin Park. And EVERYTHING Green Day has ever done.
