I fell out of love with potato chips years ago.
Oh yeah. [img][/img] That was right after I tried baked chips.

I really like the "kettle style" chips that Cape Cod, Boulder, Poore Brothers, etc. sell. I could eat the whole bag in a sitting. But, your standard potato chips, meh. I fell out of love with them as a kid, after I overindulged in them and got sick.

Basic Lays leave a greasy feeling on the roof of my mouth. Yuck.

I'm fond of the various Terra brand chips, especially the exotic ones like beet, taro, or squash.

which grow quickly but taste more like styrofoam. (Think of what happened to tomatoes.)

One former trick that potato chip manufacturers used was to add beef tallow in the cooking process. Tallow which also adds flavor, can be viewed in more current times as an unnecessary expense.

You can verify the effect of the type of potato and tallow upon taste at home.

But when I do buy them, I prefer Lay's.

big saturated fatty chips that take a day of life away per chip were awesome. Now they are healthy. Takes 2 chips to take away a day of life.

But they often were discounted and began to sell well. Shortly after Wise chips became paler than their normal dark almost burnt color. Their flavor went away with the color. I'm sure some part of the problem is also with the different oils they use.

I now often make my own chips at home, it's not hard and they taste much better.

(with French onion dip) are de-lish. I don't each chips often, but those three don't stand a chance if around me.

I can't find them where I live (which is probably a good thing), but they're delicious. The Grandma kind I wasn't crazy about, but the Crab Chip and the Carolina BBQ are plenty good.

I don't crave salty foods very often but when I do, those crab chips go down waaay too easily.

buy them. I think people are going for store brands because they're cheaper so the more expensive ones stay on the shelf longer.

They are the best chips.
