Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsThe "assassination attempt" plotline on SCANDAL has me wondering...
if JFK had been shot, but NOT killed(in a coma for a long period of time as Fitzgerald Grant was)would there have been this kind of internal battle for power between the Kennedy and Johnson camps? Could LBJ have been capable of petitioning the Cabinet to take over as acting-prez?
Or if the equivalent situation had occurred with Lincoln in 1865, would such a storyline have happened THEN?
Just raises a ton of historical questions.
Has anybody else been wondering about this?

(20,176 posts)It is an interesting question though.
We do actually have a historical precedent to look to here in the aftermath/reaction to Hinckley shooting Reagan. Ironically, it wasn't the VP (Geo. H. W. Bush) that made a conflict of it, it was WH Chief of Staff Alexander Haig who famously declared that he was in charge at the same moment that his President was perilously close to death on an operating table.
For all his faults, I can't see Cyrus doing that.
