Ok whenever I have Mondays (I'm the odd days), I'm going to use those days to pick some obscure band that is really good but you probably never heard of in perhaps to help promote good music.
I saw this band in concert a few weeks back when I went to see North Mississippi All-Stars (It was like Deep South night at The Queen Theater in Wilmington DE). Now I'm not the biggest fan of North Mississippi All-Stars (which I found ironic that it only had 3 members, you think a band about All-Stars would have slew of people playing unless these happen to be the only 3 people in North Mississippi that actually have any musical talent). But I went to the show to pay for the person who took care of my cats while I was on vacation. She refused to take any money from me but I knew her favorite band was North Mississippi All-Stars so she accepted that in payment instead (which was a $20 ticket)
Anyhow, we did get in time to see the opening act which was Alabama Shakes. If I had to describe the music it was kinda like if the Black Crowes dumped lead singer Chris Robinson for Janis Joplin. The music had alot of blues, alot of soul and alot of rhythm. And the lead singer, well she's got a set of lungs on her that really packs a wallop with some of these songs they do. Although I did end up enjoying North Mississippi All-Stars, I have to confess I walked away becoming a big fan of Alabama Shakes. I should have bought the CD at the venue but I didn't have extra cash but luckily I was able to download it off of their site.
Let me share some links with you!
And if you want to buy the EP:

(95,337 posts)Clearly if no one replies to this thread then I'm going to stick with the classics.
But I tried with bringing in something new!

(664 posts)And the band is from Athens, apparently, which is just down the road from here.
Not really my cup of tea, musically, but interesting.

(95,337 posts)As I told the person who asked about how I picked albums, that I would try a band that isn't very well known.
I figured this thread would fade into obscurity. Thank you for giving me hope!
She does have an amazing voice but I'm not the biggest Black Crowes fan. I mean I like their music but every song sounds like it's the encore finale meant to bring everyone out of their seats.
Those type of songs are great but sometimes you need a change-up in your lineup.
I do think there is potential for the band else I wouldn't have posted them here.

The North Mississippi All-Stars got their name because they got their start as part of the Afrossippi All-Stars, the Otha Turner project that featured musicians from Africa and Mississippi.
Thanks for the tip about the Alabama Shakers. I'll bet they're awesome live.
