(22,845 posts)It looks like my daughter will be moving to California (Los Angeles) soon and she'll get a kick out of this map.

(149,699 posts)This is uncannily accurate!
Hope she enjoys her time out here...it can be daunting!

(17,742 posts)Two are on that map. The third is El Segundo, but that would be included in a map of LA area I suppose.
edit: no, Gilroy is not stinky!

(149,699 posts)It's not as bad as it used to be. Decades ago, Standard Oil used to use the cloudy days as cover for burning off waste products, and we always smelled them! They have gotten better...
I live next door in Manhattan Beach.
Um, Gilroy can too be stinky!

(17,742 posts)It's been years since I've driven through El Segundo, but what you describe was how I remember it. You always knew when you were passing through it on the freeway.

(58,706 posts)Spent thirty years there. Once had a guy actually say, "I don't know how anybody could be a Democrat." Then he looked at me kind of funny and said something about after that, I was probably one.
I didn't say anything. Hey, he was giving me a ride home and we were still 15 miles away.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,699 posts)They've even elected some Democrats! Remember B-1 Bob? He's gone, replaced by Hispanic women!
And I'd say you were smart, keeping your mouth shut back then...15 miles is way too far to walk.

(1,754 posts)I used to live somewhere between 'vegas traffic' and 'rocks' - I thought the desert was beautiful! I wish I had been able to travel around the state more when I lived out there - now I'm too poor to go back for a visit. Oh well, maybe one day.
