Actresses over the age of 40 who allowed themselves to age gracefully

first that comes to mind for that is Meryl Streep

She is absolutely gorgeous, she doesn't look like she's had any work done. And she still gets great movie parts all the time. And sure her big role this year is playing Margaret Thatcher (hardly a glamourous role), two years ago she did "It's Complicated" where the 2 men chasing her were both at least 10 years younger (Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin) but the movie treated them all about the same age.

Personally I think the hollywood female legends who still keep getting all the great movie parts are the ones that skip the botox and lip plumper (which turns to trout pout). I know I don't want to see a movie where the woman looks like a freak of nature. Why does Hollywood tell women like Meg Ryan and Nicole Kidman that this look is attractive.

I forget who said it, but I recently read an interview with an over 40 actress who said having work done on your face doesn't make you look younger, it just makes you look like you had work done. I find that in most cases, that's true.

And the ladies we've posted (except Goldie Hawn - she's had major work done) have all kept very vibrant careers and you'll see at least 2-3 of them up for an Oscar each year.

I don't want to go to a movie and see some woman who is my age or older (and I'm in my 40s) looking like some crazy frankinstein with all the bad work done on her face. I want to see women who look their age but by good luck, maybe by avoiding the sun or not smoking, they managed to keep their face looking younger than their years.

BTW talented actresses who have aged gracefully up for Golden Globes:

Best Actress Drama
Glenn Close
Meryl Streep
Tilda Swinton
Viola Davis
(all but 1 actress is over 40)

Best Actress Comedy
Jodie Foster

Best Supporting Actress
Janet McTier

It's possible to have work done and not look like a freak afterwards.

Not an actress, but a public figure. I always thought she looked amazing and she was in her sixties here.

It's more like a refresh rather than going to a chop shop with "doctors" who don't care what you want them to do as long as the checks clear.

I don't know if she's had any work done, but if she has, I don't think it was anything major. I think Meg Ryan's and Nicole Kidman's lip-plumping is horrific. If I were them, I'd sue my plastic surgeon, or whoever did the jobs.

A little botox here, a little filler there is usually not so bad, but when women start messing with their lips, it's almost always a disaster. I think many women in Hollywood are so surrounded by women that have had work done that they don't even see that it looks bad. It looks normal to them.

Lena's 56 - I think she was in her late 30's for this pic.

Delany, in 2003, tried having an injection of botox in her forehead, but the needle hit a nerve and created a hematoma which affected the muscle in her right eye, causing it to droop slightly. In 2010, she vowed she will never have plastic surgery. She told Prevention in 2010 that she prefers eating healthily, including vegetables, tofu, fish, gluten-free pasta, and bread.
