(220 posts)Hi,
Paul Harvey routinely made Right wing Racist comments on his show. One time he was chastised by the media for making insensitive comments on MLK day. He would feel in good company with many of the Right wingers of today & gave them his support. I heard him one time at a Broadcasters conference & he was definitely red, white, & blue Republican & hated anyone that was not on his side.

(36,448 posts)I listened to his sappy stuff for years. I started making a study of his craft and realized each and every segment he ever produced has one opinion hidden in all that cute stuff. One opinion guised as fact. Not in your face à la Rush Limbaugh, but an opinion, a slant, nevertheless, and I suspect his bread and butter audience never even knew what he was doing.

(46,339 posts)I knew Paul Harvey was conservative by the time I was a teenager in the mid 70's.
I enjoyed his voice, and his stories were funny at times.
Just hearing that "God Made A Farmer" reminded me of the essays he'd read on Saturdays.
Nowadays, Paul Harvey would never have made it on to a radio show, he'd be labeled "too liberal" and not enough of a "shock jock" like most of today's radio commentators.

(6,278 posts)I used to hear him in the barber shop, and I was always amused by his seamless transitions between his show and advertising.

(4,869 posts)He gave me that old timey warm feeling. You know that feeling of when you long for the good old days when blacks couldn't sit at the same counter and women were second class citizens? That feeling.
He was a racist POS. I hope progressives aren't talking about how much they miss Glenn Beck in 20 years.

(9,077 posts)As a kid growing up in the late 50's early 60's my parents would listen to him on the local radio station at lunchtime. I would have rather had silence. He creeped me out then & still does.
