Now I want to run my DNA to see if there is any chance I am related to the late king.

If you have a lot of British ancestors you may have a collateral relationship, but probably not a direct one. His one legitimate child died young. He's credited with several illegitimate children, but there's no evidence any of them had children.

Im supposedly a descendant of Ethelred the Unreadys.
Im also supposedly descended from the god Woden/Odin, via euhemerism. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euhemerism#Euhemerism
I don't really don't believe these claims, because there's no DNA to back them up, just some old documents, some or many of which are probably wrong.

(21,020 posts)Pats fan, I was less excited about this year's SB than in previous years, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't ordinarily find this news about Richard III's bones being found any less interesting.
His defeat at Bosworth Field kicks off my very favorite period of English history...the Tudors.
I can't even count how many books I've read on the wives of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I.
Anyway, yeah...this is really really cool stuff.

(6,787 posts)There's a school of thought that holds Richard III was not the meanie Shakespeare painted him. As the last of the Plantagenets, the idea that he was a good guy didn't bode well for Tudor P.R. And Shakespeare was not about to make him a hero and lose Elizabeth's patronage.

(36 posts)I really don't care for the Super Bowl. Never saw the appeal. On the other hand, British history has always fascinated me.
