I saw lots and lots of these tiny figurines in the model trains department at Who's Hobby in Rapid city, SD on Saturday. They're very intricate. A package of three or so cost around $12. Some were railroaders, but there were also regular people figurines like those in the picture, and even teensy dogs and other pets.

I like odd things like this.

(12,008 posts)I'd largely forgotten about them, as my favourite parts were the buildings and the landscaping.

Other companies, including People Scale, make them too.

The little figures appear to be all the rage now. The small hobby store I saw the Woodland figures in had hundreds!

(12,008 posts)The railroad was really my father and older brother's thing. It got taken down when we moved when I was about 10. We put a smaller one up at the new house, but then I got interested in other things. I guess all of that stuff must be in boxes somewhere now.

(32,086 posts)I was prepared to be really disgusted. I expected disembodied fingernails and fingernail clippings to be used, not this. This is kinda cool.
