Here are my two favorites of days gone by.

(6,581 posts)Those were around mid-late 1990's, I think. I really liked them. A salad sandwich, not a bad idea.

(7,875 posts)Once when I was a poor starving student, I went with a few other poor staving students -having fasted all day until about 4:00PM we went to Wendy's and tried to eat two days' worth.

(43,182 posts)You had the pasta station, the taco station, the salad bar.
I'd literally stuff myself silly with it all.
I could imagine it being something of a money loser--all that food, all you can eat, at a flat low price.
But damn was it ever the most incredible thing I've ever seen at a fast food restaraunt.

(794 posts)taco bell used to have a southwestern style chicken border wrap-i dont know if that was it's official name-but i havent seen them offer it again for at least the last 8 years. It was, imo, the best thing they have ever had on the menu.
Wendy's frosties used to be really flavorful and rich but over the last 10 years they have switched to a cheap soft serve product that is neither flavorful or rich- but at least they saved money by going cheap on thier products, after they established a reputation for quality, quick eats.

(43,182 posts)Their "natural cut fries" aren't as good as the old fries, but I suspect the change was actually made as a cost cutting measure.

(8,692 posts)Used to get one almost everyday my senior year of high school. That and a steak finger basket, and I'd be so happy...

I was either still IN college or not too long OUT of college and living on a very tight
budget. Not great but not bad and very inexpensive for an all-you-can-eat buffet.
.
Three types{?} of surprisingly well-cooked pasta -- spaghetti, penne, and tri-color
rotini.
.
Three sauces(?) -- marinara, meat, alfredo. A bowl of Parmesan from which to
spoon on to your pasta.
.
A pretty fair assortment of salad items (to include croutons, shredded cheese and
a large variety of dressings) -- though the veggies were so uniform in shape and size
and appearance to suggest HEAVY processing and preserving. Cottage cheese and
canned fruit like peaches and pineapple.

I remember being VERY disappointed when they discontinued it.

(42,770 posts)McDonalds. I ate the southwest salad every day. It is good. But, that was in New Orleans. Amazing
how the quality of something differs so much, depending on which one you go to. There, the greens were
amazingly fresh and crispy - the chicken perfectly cooked.

(6,996 posts)Nedick's was a chain on the East coast known for it's Orange Drink and a quick hot-dog. As I remember, the drink was basically just watered down OJ but it was distinctive enough to build a franchise around with their orange and white decor.
