I've always considered Glenlivet to be somewhat pedestrian at best. Nadurra is however highland single malt at its best!

(10,418 posts)I was asking someone at a liquor store about it recently, and she said that scotch and some of the pricier tequilas are aged in wooden barrels that have a smokey aspect to them. The result is that the booze has a smokey flavor to it. She told that that is why a lot of people like to smoke cigars while drinking scotch. I told her that I quit smoking 7 months ago and she recommended that I abstain from scotch. It may trigger my old desire for cigarettes.

(12,132 posts)I did nothing for years after that but I now have 6 to 10 cigars a year. My doc says it's OK.
I have scotch quite a bit more than that though. my favorite is 18yo Laphroaig.

(10,418 posts)I quit for two years before only to go back to 2 packs a day after thinking I could just smoke on Saturday nights. I also quit for 7 months on a different occasion only to go back to it. I'm 40 now, and unlike the other times I quit, I can tell now that I've done permanent damage to my lungs. I think I'll be okay, but if I were to keep at it for another ten years, maybe not. I know a guy who is 52 and has emphysema.
