Listener supported. Volunteer powered. W.E.R.U. The voice of many voices. thank you!

89.9 Bangor, 99.9 Blue Hill.

Since I can't give them $$ right now, I just wanted to give a shout out to my alternative public radio station. For years I've plodded through life with only crappy old rock/pop stations to keep me moving. The classical radio stations here play the same golden oldies over and over. There's kristian krap galore. Rush. Country/western. Etc. Same ol' same ol'.

And then, tucked between a blaring Kristian Krap and Public Classical station, one day after moving my clock/radio to the opposite side of my bed, I discovered the weak signal of W.E.R.U. For the last year or two, I've been awakened at 5am Monday-Thursday, 5:30 on Friday, by the gentle wave or flute or string sounds of New Age. Well, except Mondays when the volunteer DJ confuses New Age with contemporary Celtic belting out jigs. Followed by 6am Native American News. Also occasional Monday afternoons with New Age. Book discussions. A physicist on climate change and why we're experiencing wild temp changes week to week.

Evening news, at long last, Democracy Now with Amy Goodman! I wondered where you all found her. Now I have her too!

Evenings I can mellow out one evening with Latino, another with World Beat, another with alternative hard Rock, or Indian or Middle Eastern. Or Blues or Swing or some other Jazz genre. Occasional classic, but not the same overtired golden oldies.

Best radio station I have ever had in my life. Diverse, interesting music and talk. I lose it during storms, if I accidentally nudge my clock/radio, if the antenna on my CD player/radio moves, or if I drive about 1 mile south.

Someday I dream of retiring to Blue Hill, Maine or thereabouts, and becoming a volunteer dj in a blue, blue, blue area.

He loves Celtic music, so excuse him for shaking up your New Age programs!

Thanks for this post! I used to listen to WERU about 12 years ago and loved the station! First heard Pacifica news and Amy Goodman. Loved the Native perspective and I rish music....Just added them to my favorite bar so I can listen to them!
Thanks!
