Condoms mark the day of love

Most students plan to celebrate Feb. 14 with big teddy bears, heart-shaped candy boxes and bouquets of roses, but a few groups on campus will mark the day with something else in hand — condoms.

Peer educators from the Health Resource Center and volunteers from Lambda Sigma Gamma Sorority, Inc. will promote sexual health on Thursday by handing out free condoms in celebration of National Condom Day, which coincides with Valentine’s Day. The groups will set up a table by the water fountain next to Brotman Hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We do National Condom Day every year, and it’s always on Valentine’s Day,” Heidi Burkey, coordinator of the Health Resource Center, said. On average, Burkey said that Health Resource Center usually hands out about 150 condoms within two hours.
