(55,019 posts)I imagine it isn't hard to get a herd moving.
Good to see nature shows aren't white(disney)-washing the reality of predator-prey yet, though.

(56,912 posts)One of the most dangerous and feared animals in Africa is an African Cape Buffalo. Known for their aggressive nature and protection of the herd, lion would never dare attack a buffalo by themselves. In this first ever documented video footage in the world, we see a Buffalo challenging a Rhino, and what a fight it was...
What begins as a face-off between two big five african animals turns into an incredible display of power and aggression. The 4500 pound Rhino throws the 1500 pound buffalo into the air and destroys it. The buffalo died a few hours later - his left eye was missing and had severe damage to his body from the horn.
Checkout what the Buffalo Looked like after the fight - we zoomed in and filmed the Buffalo - His left eye that was damaged by the Rhino horn. The Buffalo died a few hours later from internal injuries.

Not even lions, and they hunt elephants and hippos sometimes.

If we stood our ground (congress) we'd be OK.
But eventually we turn and run.

Saw a grizzly ambling down to the left of the valley floor. The right side side, wolves emerged to take down an ungulate (I don't recall if it was some younger elk, or deer).
The wolves were about a half mile away from the grizzly, at least.
We saw all but the kill since the wolves chased the deer/elk into a lower area -- the way the wolves worked in a team to get dinner -- there were pups waiting back home.
This is the way Mother Nature is supposed to work - raw and sad, sometimes, but honest.

Protect the young. Honor the weary.
Above all do no harm.
The Wild creatures of the world do not kill for sport,
or greed, or revenge. only to feed their needs.
Why do we plunder the wilderness leaving nothing for those not yet born?
Why do we have violent cartoons for our children to learn the wrong messages?
Why are we so intent on destroying everything beautiful?

(13,661 posts)On November 13, 1974 the Australian Minister for the Environment and Conservation gave a speech in Paris at a meeting of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. The Ministers name was Moses Henry Cass, and his address to the Environment Committee included an instance of the saying. Cass did not attribute his words to anyone else, and this is the earliest evidence located by QI. The version Cass spoke was longer and clumsier than modern instances:
We rich nations, for that is what we are, have an obligation not only to the poor nations, but to all the grandchildren of the world, rich and poor. We have not inherited this earth from our parents to do with it what we will. We have borrowed it from our children and we must be careful to use it in their interests as well as our own. Anyone who fails to recognise the basic validity of the proposition put in different ways by increasing numbers of writers, from Malthus to The Club of Rome, is either ignorant, a fool, or evil.
(emphasis mine)
And we need to preserve it not only for our children, but for the sake of ALL living creatures.
