Ashokan Farewell

the tune composed in 1982 by fiddleman Jay Ungar and used as the main theme for the Ken Burns documentary The Civil War that played on PBS. When I first heard it on the show, I thought it was a piece of period music. To me, it sure captures the nostalgia of the old days. Here's the composer playing it along with the Molly Mason Family Band.
