I have built many CBGs over the years, but it has been awhile since the last one. Lately, I have been focusing on building amps and lo-fi samplers into them. However, last week I completed a 42" scale 2-string upright bass utilizing an oversize Romeo y Juliet promotional cigar box (12"X24&quot and it sounds remarkable. My current project is a 1 -string quasi-cello for bowing purposes.
Cigar boxes and piezo transducers rule!

cigarboxguitars.com
is a great resource.
There are also many other good sites, but I have a special fondness for them; it is where I picked up many of my early tips.

I am one of those sound builders who like to go back and forth between the two poles.
Sometimes it is "primitive instruments" such as CBGs, diddy bows, etc., other times it is oscillators, theremins, and filters.

Next project will probably a tamboura AKA tanpura. I love the drones.

Is he wearing a slide?
Or just using his fingers?
Can't tell from the video.

How is it tuned?

Thanks.

he has tuned the strings to D and A or E and B
I generally build 3 string CBGs (tuned DAF# or EBG#)

I recommend having a go at building one. It is remarkably easy and fun. And addictive.

I was completely unaware of cigar box guitars. But that one sounds amazing. And the guy playing it is pretty darn good.
