Felt the fear but did it anyway, so glad to overcome severe dental phobia!
Having extensive treatment done on a weekly basis for a few months, and the pain
of it all will be all worth it in the end.
Thanks to my fab Dentist

(4,243 posts)I love the way my teeth feel after I go to the dentist.

(13,893 posts)found a wonderful dentist in Boston who got me through it. I still get nervous but nowhere near as bad as in the past. I attribute my problem to an absolute monster dentist I had as a kid. Congrats to you!!!

(9,298 posts)nitrous oxide? That's what got me through some harrowing sessions. You know what the dentist is doing, but you just don't give a damn. Headphones help the wonderful, warm feeling, too.

(285 posts)Glad you have a good provider, and hope the results are what you desire.
I just had a check up, pleasantly surprised by good result and and easy cleaning. Nothing like the relief when it's all over!

(23,272 posts)I'd be embarrassed.
Nothing seems to touch the fear - nitrous, valium, nada.
Had a terrible time with a childhood dentist. Tried to work through it with the last dentist but never went back after I threw up on his dental hygienist during the cleaning.
Sheer terror.
I'm hoping I can win the lottery and just go have sedation dentistry. I have no idea otherwise how I'm going to get it done.

(250 posts)It can feel scary, I am the biggest coward going. I had not visited the dentist
for over 5 years prior to the appts I have now. Also before that I went for over
8 years before that. I was sitting, waiting for the dentist to arrive, then I just bolted
from the room. Just could not go through with it. sheer terror.
Maybe complete sedation would calm you? Calm, gentle dentistry does exist. There are
so many people who have dental fears. You are not alone.

(23,272 posts)We'd had a conversation over the phone before I made the appointment so they knew I was coming. Had valium ready if I needed it. Took their time...
Unfortunately I never did get a chance to see him after throwing up on his hygienist and all the equipment.
I left immediately after that.
Never went back.
I think sedation dentistry may be my best option. Alas.

(55,014 posts)no fear, just no $$$
fortunately I was blessed with good dentition for the most part and haven't had any serious problems since then, although I am sure I have low level chronic peridontal/gum problems going on

(23,272 posts)Yeah, I think I'm lucky in that I haven't had any pain or trouble with teeth cracking (knock on wood).
Who knows whats lurking though...
Even now the thought of that drill sound is making me break out in a cold sweat!
