No spoilers. I was rooting for the eventual winner because of the circumstances surrounding her dismissal prior to Last Chance Kitchen. Coming back through multiple rounds of LCK to make it back to the finals made for a compelling underdog story.
What was cool was that two superb chefs, who behaved professionally and decently at all times throughout the season, were in the finals. No losers here.
Is it just me or can Padma get a little catty on occasion?

(13,933 posts)The whole kitchen stadium schtick was a bad idea and the editing was a joke. Was it originally two hours and they tried to chop it down? At first I thought my DVR cut off the first ten minutes and all the suspenseful music and dramatic pauses at the end when it was obvious there was no time for a fifth round just looked stupid.
I wouldn't have minded either of them winning, although I don't like the whole concept of LCK.

She was my favorite early on. I like her back story, her demeanor, & she's adorable. Considering the life circumstances of both finalists, I think the right one won. Tom consistently liked her dishes.
It may be Padma's monotonic voice that makes her seem catty. It's like nails on a chalkboard for me; I wish she used her diaphragm when speaking. She's beautiful, though!

(33,688 posts)Kristin is one hell of a chef and never should have been booted, but she refused to throw Josie under the train even though she richly deserved it. I was very pleased to see her win. Nothing against Brooke, who is also insanely talented, but she has two restaurants of her own and is regarded as one of the best young chefs in Southern California. Kristin is still working her way up the ladder to having her own business.
The fact that she's cute as hell also tilted me a bit in her direction.
I must also agree re: Padma. She's one of the most mind-roastingly gorgeous women on the face of the earth.

(24,721 posts)That incident showed that she had no honor &, overall, she seemed to rub people the wrong way.

(43,182 posts)The studio audience part was distracting enough.
But the round-by-round judging was even worse. The winner became obviously clear after you saw the producers draw the episode out by throwing in a 10 minute segment about past winners as time filler.
Best X out of Y works for the World Series, but not Top Chef. I seriously hope the producers realize this and revert back to the single round of judging at the very end.
Really didn't love or hate either Kristen or Brooke. It was nice to see a woman win it again, but I wouldn't have minded seeing Sheldon or Josh in there instead.

Either of the last 2 chefs could have won, and I would have been pleased. They were excellent chefs, and genuinely good people.

(24,721 posts)This season's format seemed like the chaotic style of Iron Chef. Too much going on & fast-paced.

(16,334 posts)I'm not sure who thinks we want to see fighting and drama and superiority complexes in the contestants but I am glad the tone was more professional this time.
I would have been happy with either one winning.

(24,721 posts)I liked all the finalists, but Brooke's career was already well established; in fact, two guest judges in one episode had been interviewed in the past by Kristen to work at her restaurant. This was Kristen's big break.

(22,057 posts)that work? It was quite obvious who had won way too early. No suspense at all.
