(692 posts)Ever heard of Mandy Barnett? She has a similar voice...not as good as Patsy, but close as I've ever heard. She actually played Patsy in a couple of stage plays and has sung Patsy's songs on the Opry.
I loved her first CD, but then she pretty much dropped off the scene. Still does concerts, just not with a major label, I think.
Just in case no one's ever heard of her: [link:

(22,145 posts)she would successfully sing Patsy Cline songs .
As far as dying young....maybe it's all the emotion they pour into their singing/playing. Just takes everything right out of them .

(54,256 posts)I remember when she died in a plane crash.
And I was leaving home for a year for USAF pilot training.
That kinda hit home.
DearHeart
(692 posts)But yea, I could definitely see how that would've hit home for you. I could never be a pilot, have a hard enough time flying in jumbo jets.

(10,237 posts)She had tone and was real you can hear it in her voice .Sure could use more singers like her now.

(692 posts)Like I posted earlier, Mandy Barnett is really good, so is a woman named Alison Moorer. Moorer has a very rich, sultry voice and so does her sister, Shelby Lynne.
I love Toni Braxton's voice, Dawn Robinson (formerly of En Vogue), but I can't think of any more on the pop or R&B scene. I'm sure that there are many more, I just can't think right now. Mind is now wandering to too many places.

(2,953 posts)I saw her at the auditorium at South High School in Salt Lake City in the early 60's. Ironically the auditorium is now the Grand Theater and I have seen the stage production of "Patsy!" twice in the last few years.
She is absolutely a legend. That plane crash took a great deal of talent. RIP Patsy, Hawkshaw, and crew.

(2,953 posts)kicking and screaming to all of these concerts when we were young. Who knew it would define who I am today.
My husband, all the sisters, and my parents went to the Terrace Ballroom in Salt Lake to see Ernest Tubb in the early 1970's. My Dad loved Ernest, so imagine his delight when Ernest came down and sat at our table and talked to Dad. I still use "Waltz Across Texas" as my parents ringtone. They are both gone, but my sister is now using the phone line.

(692 posts)She likes country, but just not Bluegrass (reminds her of the holler she used to have to visit with her step-mother). So, we went to see the Oak Ridge Boys. That was my time. I would've rather seen Patsy, Elvis, etc. I always knew that I was born too late!

(2,173 posts)Patsy Cline was the dominant influence in Loretta Lynn's career. Her plane accident had a major impact on Loretta.

(692 posts)I love that movie and have seen it dozens of times. Did you like "Sweet Dreams" with Jessica Lange? I think I prefer Beverly D'Angelo as Patsy, although you get to hear Patsy's voice in "Sweat Dreams"...so, I'm torn.

(2,173 posts)It's sort of up there with "Fiddler on the Roof". My favorite part is "We were just drivin' down the road, eatin' salami and gettin' horny".

(692 posts)I like it when Loretta says, "An' stoppa that growlin'. You sound like a big ol' bar." Great movie!
Have a nice night!
