I have watched it from the beginning and hate it. I'm done.
Not bragging, but my wardrobe at age 43 is more fashionable than Hanna's.
I think the show is completely unrealistic---especially the episode with Patrick Wilson.
Yes, I know I watch too much television.

(43,191 posts)The actress/creator has even said as much herself:

That said, it can be entertaining. I enjoy some characters more than others, and some episodes more than others.
And it is a hell of a lot more enjoyable--and realisitic--than Sex and the City ever was.
I generally enjoy a lot of HBO programming, SATC and a few other busts excluded.

(5,909 posts)Maybe it's my age, but I could relate and liked Sex and the City---not the movies, just the show.
I read her interview in Rolling Stone and she is extremely smart, but I don't think the show is realistic.
Did you see the episode with Patrick Wilson?

(43,191 posts)It was, well, interesting. Basically just showed what a mental mess Hannah was.
She's a prototypic anti-heroine, that one thing's for sure.
My wife liked SATC, but whenever I tried watching it, I just couldn't sit through it. I just found all the characters so incredibly unlikeable--they came off all very shallow and materialistic to me.
(And yes, Girls characters are also unlikeable, but at least I find them interesting. Whereas I couldn't give two shits what happened to the Samantha character on SATC, or anyone else.)

I dont watch any of the shows that people say are "must see". I've never seen Downton Abbey, any of the shows on HBO or Showtime, Breaking Bad, Arrested Development, or any other of the cool shows that I must see. The last one I saw that came highly recommended, I found stupid...The Office.
Flame me, but they all probably suck.

(16,327 posts)but cannot get into it. I found Hannah to be absolutely repulsive -- which is funny, 'cause that's how creator Lena Dunham later described her in an article I read. Ricky Gervais pulled off repulsive in The Office enough for me to watch regularly, but Dunham et al aren't working for me.

(24,931 posts)Watched half an episode and thought it was way too cool for school. I saw her film "Tiny Furniture" and it just seems to be the same stuff. I find only a little bit of her stuff entertaining. I just can't sit through an episode.

(5,909 posts)Good to see you! I thought Tiny Furniture sucked---it is more of the same.

(24,931 posts)It totally seems like the same characters as in the movie

(22,143 posts)I always give HBO shows a chance. This show failed for me pretty quick. I also dislike Veep.
Can't hit a home run every time.

(20,176 posts)My god that show is awful. There is nothing redeemable about it and there are no likable characters.
I really like Girls though.

(20,277 posts)I figured I would give it a try. Big mistake. Oh so cool and hipster. I didn't like any of the characters.

(5,909 posts)Not one likable character---male or female.

(17,742 posts)although I have to admit that it is full of cringe-worthy scenes. I think she's a brilliant writer. The show seems to be a platform for her to expose herself though. Which, I suppose is fine if you're into that sort of thing. I like that she's comfortable enough with herself to do that. Kudos to her. I just don't especially like seeing it. So I'm ambivalent.
I like some of the characters (Charlie is adorable) but most of the female characters just annoy me. Hannah is the only female character that I even remotely like, and even with her, I have to turn away sometimes due to what I mentioned above.
Last night's episode was a bit of a bummer, because I had high hopes that Hannah's ex (tall dark guy) was actually going to get his shit together. But that poor boy is deeply disturbed. Sad.

(10,237 posts)I have 2 daughters born in the 80s so seeing the crappy life they have hurts me in weird daddy ways.
looked up Hanna's real life dad ( he is an artist ) this will give you some insight about the show's take on sex---
She got a cover on Rolling Stone so the show is " hip and edgy"
