The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsIt is completely overcast here, and I can't tell whether the sun is over the yardarm
or not. Accordingly, by the power invested in me by whatever, I hereby declare it to be Happy Hour in my small corner of the world. Sláinte. Cheers. Nostrovia. Prost. Etc.
On edit: eliminated errant space that slipped into the title line somehow.

(4,833 posts)I had an Estonian-American fraternity brother in college.
Not that many of you folks around.
LiberalEsto
(22,845 posts)About 1 million in Estonia and another 300,000 or so scattered around the world, US, Canada, Australia, Sweden, Germany, France, the UK, etc.
If your frat brother is around my age, 61, there's a small chance I could have met him at some Esto event or other.
By the way, do you know about the original Moondog who hung out in NYC, near St. Patrick's Cathedral? Blind, wore a horned helmet, read poetry, etc. We used to exchange hugs whenever we encountered one another in the 70s.

His family was in the steamship business.
Yes, I do know of the original Moondog. Sadly, my screen name is less colorful, and was not intended to be an homage to the man. None of my usual aliases were available, and the first thing that came to me as I was registering that turned out to be available was an old call sign that I had way back when.

(4,833 posts)so, what the hell. I see that you have survived another day. Congratulations to both of us.

(7,515 posts)you don't need to be able to see it!
Yes, at least I think I have survived another day!
Moondog
(4,833 posts)You think you survived? Is it too early to tell?

(7,515 posts)I won't know until tomorrow!
Moondog
(4,833 posts)But it sounds as if there could be a story involved. One that you'd prefer to keep to yourself. Very well, then.

(7,515 posts)Nothing major...just not enough sleep over the course of the week...beginning with the time change. Then I worked the polls for a local election...14 hours at the polls on 4 hours of sleep. Last night was an issue with a visiting dog...who decided he needed to be taken out at 4 am... I wish I still had the stamina I had at 30!
Moondog
(4,833 posts)shame it out of you. Sorry.
I hate the time change. I wish they'd pick one, and stick to it. I'd adapt.
Fourteen hours? That is a long day. Is this a full-time gig for you, or one that you do out of a sense of civic responsibility?
At least the dog is just visiting. I have a ~25 lb Maine Coon that gets up at that hour most days, and thinks I should too, so that he might have his breakfast appropriately presented.
I'd settle for the stamina that I had at 45. 30 is an impossible dream.

(7,515 posts)Yes, Max went home this morning. My own Ernie would never be so inconsiderate...he rises only when I do! Well trained...it is why I prefer dogs...who has ever trained a cat?
NP I am shameless
Moondog
(4,833 posts)They do try to train you. And often succeed. But I admire their predatory instincts. And the fact that they are lower maintenance than a dog. I wish I needed as little maintenance as that cat.
Shameless, is it? I am, indeed, pleased to meet you.

I love NY, and New England. I just don't want to spend any more winters there.
