(6,261 posts)A nice lightweight open-source alternative that supported MSN, AIM and ICQ. No ads or anything either.
It's still around and now known as Pidgin, but I've nobody left to communicate with over AIM so I wonder why I bother.

(3,502 posts)It got to be too much after a while. Was great for talking to one friend or maybe two. After that it got to be too many at a time. Messageboards are still my favorite way to communicate in a group.
