(38,187 posts)A friend of mine sent me the books (he's a huge fan,) and a few weeks ago I began watching the series. So far I do like it.

(5,815 posts)I know they like to have Big Events in the 9th episode of the season, it comes around halfway through the book, and it would be one hell of a cliffhanger to leave the season on, so I'm kind of assuming it will go down before the season's end. Then season four would revolve mainly around the aftermath and King's Landing.
I could totally be wrong though. It just feels like that would be a natural progression for dividing the book into two seasons.

(23,796 posts)I've read a very spoilerly interview where the creators gave that development as the main reason they wanted to do the series in the first place, and that it's this season.
And the different previews I've seen make some very clear allusions to it if you know what to look for. No footage yet!

(5,842 posts)Although I guess one could be described as "oh fuck" and the other as "fuck yeah".
Given that two seasons will be given over to the third book and since the producers don't mind playing with the time line has there been any indication which one takes place this season?
Prism
(5,815 posts)And the trailers don't hint at it.
But each season needs a Big Event, and I feel like that would be a good one to close Season 3 on, especially since it's a good natural division in the book (season four could easily be about what happens in King's Landing afterwards).

'Cause that shit alone made the book for me.

(2,135 posts)RW, "Only X" and then the second W. Of course, what comes after #3 would be the perfect way to close out season 4.

(20,176 posts)it's the only way I can keep some of this straight. It's a deep and immersive universe with a robust and well-plotted history, which is awesome, but I don't know how some people keep it straight. There's got to be 200 named characters to keep straight at this point.

(17,086 posts)HBO was "temporarily unavailable" most of the afternoon, then came back just before GoT came on. Then it dropped again 40 minutes in. I'm so fucking pissed.

(56,828 posts)I was happy with the start of Season 3.
The beginning was a bit murky, as I thought it was not clear who won the battle at the Fist of the First Men. I think it's okay that they didn't show the battle - it was kind of shown in flashback in the book as it is. (Chett in the prologue was the 3 blasts of the horn, and then nothing until we get Samwell fleeing the battle...)
Glad to see one of my favorite characters is back in Ser Barristan Selmy, though I'm disappointed we don't get Strong Belwas.
I really really hope we get Ser Jorah's line from the book in the next episode - (swiper for spoilers) Rhaegar fought valiantly, Rhaegar fought nobly, Rhaegar fought honorably. And, Rhaegar died."

(12,132 posts)I can't remember ever feeling so bad for a character in a TV show. I don't remember that scene from the books BUT i read the first 3 so long ago that most of the show is pretty new to me. But damn, you'd think I woulda' remembered THAT.
I very much look forward to Tyrion getting some revenge on pappy Lannister.

(12,272 posts)But the TV series does deviate some, so . . . at any rate, you are close with your prediction.
again, he's a snake.

(56,828 posts)Some of the dialogue was word-for-word from the book.
However, they left an important line out from Tywin about some wars being won with quill and ravens.
OriginalGeek
(12,132 posts)but I might have to go and read them all again.
I bought the first one in paperback on a whim at the drug store in the late 90s and fell in love with the whole world and I remember waiting very impatiently for Storm to come out. But in the almost 13 years since I must have forgotten all but a few major points so this might be a good time to pick 'em back up. The TV show has shown me that I only really remember the big stuff but all the little things are what makes it great.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)I'm usually pretty cheap when it comes to books. However, after I got the paperback for A Game of Thrones, I bought hardcovers for the rest. And, I also have the audiobooks for all five as well.
However, after A Storm of Swords came out, it was so long until Feast for Crows that I quickly became frustrated reading it - who are all these Greyjoys that I don't remember, and all these Martells? So, I put the book down in frustration and didn't read them again I heard more about Dance with Dragons. Once Dance with Dragons had a definitive release date, I re-read all the books from the beginning. (My daughter was like 2 at the time and my job was very busy - I didn't have time to go back & re-read the whole series.
Then, I later re-read the series again with an eye for the little details (like R+L=J evidence) and some real "holy shit" moments in some little things. (For example, when Mirri Maaz Duur is telling Dany and Jorah where she learned her arts, she tells her several places, like Asshai, but she also mentions learning from a Maester named Marwyn. The name doesn't come up again until A Feast for Crows, when Samwell goes to see an Archmaester at the Citadel in Oldtown named... you guessed it - Marwyn. And, guess who is making the journey to see Dany in Meereen - Marwyn.)
siligut
(12,272 posts)Well, actually she popped out of a building, but it sticks out as it lacks the artistry of the rest of the prologue.

What does she signify?
Hayabusa
(2,135 posts)much like the sigils of the houses on Westeros. It'll become much more important in later seasons.

I don't think I am being too critical when I say the harpy doesn't match-up with the rest of the map.
Look at it, just weak and having it pop out of the roof is even weaker.
