The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsCall for assitance from London/London experienced DUers
In short, I am up for a position in London with a very quick turnaround time, ie. they need somebody to start last week. *IF* the position is offered, I will need to make a decision about moving to London very quickly and I will likely need to be on a plane by the end of next week. And I am freaking out.
If there are any UK DUers willing to give some advice about the logistics of moving to London - finding a flat, obtaining utilities, getting around, not moving into a dodgy neighborhood, etc. - please PM me. This may well all come to nothing, as I am one of five finalists, but if it is offered I need as many ducks in a row as possible. Or at least the terror of the thing mitigated.
Thanks!

(51,457 posts)I assume you already have a passport and your employer will help with the visa. I thought a company in an EU country had to hire somebody from an EU country (if available). You must have a very rare set of skills.

(30,947 posts)I have visited London twice. And their pound is worth so much more than our American dollar. I hope your salary in British pounds is worth the move.

Or is it just a matter of a cut and paste into the forum? Has technology failed me?

I used to model my relationship with my brother on Bert and Ernie. We didn't get along until we were both out of college.

(921 posts)I'll be in a sort of similar position myself within the next week, though with a lot more time for the moving logistics thankfully, and could do with any advice you or others may have particularly in regards to realtors for renting a flat, setting up a bank account, phone companies you can recommend, declaring myself for tax purposes which I figure I'll be domiciled since I plan on making the move permanent.
I've done quite a bit of research already but first hand experience is unbeatable.

(14,819 posts)My recommendation would be to plan potential living space around where you'll be working (have a tube map to hand). As a city it can take a long time to get around, particularly if you need to change a couple of times.
If you need more detailed information, I'd second the suggestion of the U.K. forum.
