Mourning Kitty

My family and I took in my neighbor's cat since she died. We didn't want the poor thing to get get killed by the humane society just because they had no room and it was a really bad winter last year.

So we are watching out for him and making sure he has food and shelter BUT this poort thing every chance he gets goes to neighbor's door and sit there waiting for the neighbor to come home-something that will never happen.

Right now it is snowing and though not extremely cold he is sitting there in front of her door even after coming into our house eatting some food and getting warm taking a nap on our bed.

Others in the neighborhood have tired to take him in but he comes right back to our door and the neighbor's porch.

Just wondering if we are doing damage to this poor cat or if we are doing something good.

I know it breaks my heart knowing he does this ritual.

1. Good for you. I have never seen a cat mourn. Usually they just get into a new routine though

they do get lonely. I imagine, when the neighbour's house gets taken over by a new family, the cat will be yours. You've done a good thing, pat yourself of the back.

always had 2 dogs. When one passes, the other grieves. It takes a few weeks to a month before they go on with their lives. It is difficult to watch but it does underline the love that Kitty had. Currently, my two dogs cannot stand to be separated from eachother for a minute. It's wonderful to see but I am sure one of them will suffer greatly when the other passes.
