My mother taught me to read when I was 5 years old. I was in 1st grade when we moved to a new neighborhood. I should have been in the 2nd semester of 1st grade, but when it was discovered by the principal that I had a 5th grade reading level, I was put into 2nd grade. I always had a natural talent for reading, spelling and grammar. So does my daughter as she teaches reading comprehension in a middle school and just earned her master's in education.
