A 14-year-old girl named Tina S. may be the next Eddie Van Halen.
In a clip recently posted to YouTube, Tina shows off her otherworldly guitar chops with a cover of the solo from Van Halen's "Eruption."
The clip lasts just a minute and a half, but that's more than enough time for her to make believers out of anyone.
With a lackadaisical look that suggests her performance is no big deal (such a rock star), Tina shreds the strings with such expertise you might find yourself looking for signs of CGI manipulation. Don't bothershe's the real deal. And commenters on YouTube seem to feel that they're not worthy.
PlayMadness wrote, "I've been playing guitar for 9 years, and a 14 year old is better than I will ever be."

Just being an ass and taking a cheap shot at Van Halen,
though his rendition of Pretty Woman wasn't bad.
She is a genius with a great talent.
I look forward to seeing and hearing more from her.

(9,214 posts)kind of senseless noise. No rhyme or reason for it. I thought Hendricks was the same kind of guitar player, make a lot of noise, but that's about it.

(20,776 posts)She's great at copying Van Halen but is she creative enough to come up with her own way of shredding that would blow everyone away. It takes talent and skill to do this...but more so to come up with your own style and your own way of playing an electric guitar. Its a great start for her...I hope she can come up with some original riffs on her own.. and I hope she gets into a band where she will learn it takes team work to make great songs.

Not to say that I do not find her technique exciting just do not see Van Halen as the model for any real musician. 35 year career and he has not evolved one iota.

(8,352 posts)lacks passion & focus. That is obvious from her body posture and facial expressions. That lackadaisical look is the clue.
She is mimicking Van Halen quite well. Can she take the next step and compose her own songs and solo rifts?
I hope she has a excellent teacher. Students, her age and younger, with great innate talent need great teachers to take them beyond just copying and technical skills playing.
She could be someone to watch someday with the right training and encouragement from other damn fine & experienced musicians.

(12,008 posts)but if you look around, you'll find a lot of kids like this. They should all be encouraged, not just the one featured on a Yahoo blog. There's probably a kid in your town spending all of his or her free time to learn to play as well as possible, and they need support too.
If we single out one person as an extraordinary "talent" (when it's really just love, patience, and determination), I'm afraid we miss seeing the greater need to support so many young people in the arts. Schools need art and music programs. Maybe there's a local youth symphony or jazz orchestra that could use support. There also need to be places for kids to form their own groups and perform; community centers, VFW halls, churches, park clubhouses, local coffee shops, or whatever.
So, give it up for this girl, but don't forget that there are girls just like her in your town, and while some moral support and encouragement is nice, there are other kinds of support that are even more important.
