Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsWhat movies have made you literally fall asleep?
And movies that you have on the TV late at night don't count. Or movies that you've started to watch after having a couple of drinks or taking a Tylenol PM.
I'm talking movies that you've specifically set out to watch (as in renting the DVD) and you find yourself falling asleep. Extra special bonus points if you actually fell asleep watching a movie in a movie theater.
I can think of two off the top of the head: Bridget Jones' Diary and Magic Mike.
Yes, those were both my wife's picks, in case you were wondering.

(8,217 posts)I have explanations though.
1 - Always - A romantic comedy that my older sister wanted to watch. I was 7 or 8 at the time. It was my first time using the public transport system in a different country. I had to walk, a lot... By the time the movie started, with the dark and all, I was out like a light.
2 - The American - I was visiting my sister in Hoboken, and I just drove in from Maryland. Her place was crowded, and I needed some time to relax. 15 minutes in the movie, I was knocked out.
3 - Twilight: Breaking Dawn - Two co-workers wanted to watch it, a 40 year old virgin akin to the comic book guy and a girl, both friends of mine, and I was their ride. It was one of the rare hang outs that they wanted to do, and I told them that the only way I will do it, is in a theater with booze. I drank enough that I was giggly, and fell asleep for it.

(24,146 posts)granted it was the second time i'd seen it THAT DAY (friend could only do early, boyfriend could only do late and both wanted to do it on the same day). that said, it was a terribly boring movie and i love the books.

(20,176 posts)Asleep in the AFI-run Silver Theatre in Silver Spring. My god, what a boring awful film.
Something about never following an animal act...never act with animals either.

(4,443 posts)Fell asleep in the theater watching that one. My wife woke me up a few times and then just gave up and let me snooze until the movie ended.

(32,086 posts)I was so amazed it got such great reviews, seemed so awfully long for no reason at all. I only wish my wife had let me stay asleep so I could have gotten some use from the time. She did say that my snoring was pretty much as exciting as the dialog though.

(12,618 posts)I had heard that this movie was an overlooked gem that should have made way more money than it did. After seeing it (well, the first half of it before I fell asleep), I can totally understand why the movie bombed.

(43,184 posts)It was a bit pretentious, but still engaged me.
I kind of wished they would have just made a whole movie about the post-apocalyptic Tom Hanks/Halle Berry storyline. That would have been cool.

(56,828 posts)I went into the movie with my now ex-wife. Within 5 minutes of the movie actually starting, I dozed off. Then, without 5 minutes left in the movie (and, it was one of those 3 hour bore-fests), I woke up again. Needless to say, my ex wasn't too happy.

(54,027 posts)we were already headed downhill before that... plus, she had me so worn out most of the time (and, not for good reasons) that I needed any spare time I could get to catch up on my sleep.

(14,881 posts)I actually fell asleep. I was physically very, very exhausted from a long, hard day at the end of a long, hard week. I think I went into a hypnotic trance and saw the entire movie -- or rather, what Andre was describing -- in my mind's eye as clearly as if I was dreaming. But I do think at some points I dozed off and then re-awoke in the trance-like dream (or dream-like trance). I am very susceptible to hypnosis.
Very surreal. I'd like to see the movie again sometime when I'm not so exhausted...
Other than that, there have been a few, but they were totally forgettable and I've forgotten them...

(54,027 posts)The Redford version was way way better. Casting Toby Maguire for the narrator was too perfect a match--I knew how he would play each scene before we even got there.
Of course I'm gonna lull off if I'm tired. I snoozed out during Iron Man 2 a couple of years ago.

I LOVE that era's movies (and other Bogart movies), but I've tried watching
these two 3 or 4 different times each and fallen asleep EVERY time.
