How could we (okay, some of us) not tell Rob Halford was gay? (Original Post) Quantess May 2013 OP
How could so many be oblivious (or pretend to be oblivious) to the fact Freddie Mercury was bisexual nomorenomore08 May 2013 #1

seems like a love song, but in context, it sounds like a realization that there was no real sexual attraction.

They lived together for many years, and were at one point engaged. Even after Freddie came out to her, they continued to live together for a while. He said that she was "the love of his life." They remained besties, in the true since of the word, for the rest of his life.

He left his mansion and the rest of his estate to her.

I think sexual orientation is the absolute last thing I'm interested in about anyone. I don't even know when I became that indifferent...
but I'd rather know what they ate for breakfast than who they got it on with last night.

I had an older brother who listened to rock music. He knew Freddie Mercury was gay, because he called Queen "Queer" but he was in denial about Rob Halford.

A lot of homophobia back then, in hard rock, especially at the time. Just take a look at my bro who was (still kind of is) a homophobe.

It wasn't my style of music, at the time. I have since, played Judas Priest records, but I never paid attention to any of their videos until now. This is the greatest video! I love it.

maybe it was before "leather culture" was a well known thing? We just had no clue.

I dunno - we didn't know then and don't care now. They were great live back then. I just saw the live show "Epitaph" on Palladium last night...the new guy on guitar is good but I'm still not sure how I feel about it not being Tipton and Downing trading licks. Not sure how enhanced the recording was but it was still fun hearing all those songs again...

Whisky woman don't you know that you driving me insane??!!

This one is better for the guitar solos. I think "Sinner" is an amazing display of Rob Halford's vocal talents. I don't really know what the lyrics in the slow part mean "changes come over her body, she doesn't see me anymore" I don't know... was that something one of his lovers said to him in confidence?

I get the feeling it's about feeling like "second fiddle" or the mistress in an unhappy marriage... well obviously, if you're having sex with Rob Halford in 1979 then it's an unhappy marriage for everyone!

No but really. I would be interested in seeing the lyrics. I can already tell it's about a "love triangle".

IIRC, everyone more or less "knew" in the 80s. Some people chose not to believe it for reasons of their own.

In Tipper Gore's opinion, Madonna's Dress "You Up in My Love" had inappropriate lyrics. Why, I wondered?
