The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsThe washroom at the greasy spoon I frequent is kinda scary (with pics)...
Bon's off Broadway is a local breakfast place / greasy spoon here in Vancouver. It's attained something of a cult following over the years for its cheap plentiful breakfasts and hippie low key atmosphere. The walls of the restaurant are covered in movie posters and sharpie marker graffiti. It's a really laid back place, customers serve themselves coffee and even refill their fountain drinks from the bar dispenser. It has almost a commune atmosphere to it. The graffiti has really started to take over the walls though and the washrooms are something else:
Looks like something out of a dive down in skid row doesn't it? Here's what the restaurant itself looks like:
Oddly enough the place is run by a Chinese family, rather out of character for this type of establishment. We've gotten to know them and they are nice people.
If you are ever in Vancouver looking for a cheap all day breakfast or sandwich and fries check them out. It's got great atmosphere. If you do visit bring a sharpie and add yourself to the walls.

Ladies, you all have my sympathy.

(6,154 posts)Maybe the women's washroom is a lot better, never looked in there. The facilities aren't really that dirty actually, just... uncomfortable looking

(20,776 posts)until they cleaned it up. I am happy the city is trying to do its best, in regards to graffiti. Also glad that Forrest Hill has a bit more light down there now too. It used to be creepy as hell.

(6,154 posts)Was it similar to NYC's subways that were notorious for graffiti till they cleaned things up in the late 90s?

(322 posts)It looks like they either got tired of cleaning the walls, or decided to see just how far they could go with saving on interior decorating.

(6,154 posts)I asked the owner and they put a light coat of paint over the sharpie markers every few weeks but it all get's written over again quickly. It all fits the atmosphere and type of customers they have anyway and is part of the restaurant by now anyway.
