(21,925 posts)I just can't get used to the new ones that all have the same formless electric shaver look with the plastic fenders, with plastic door handles, with the gigantic rubber dashboards and consoles, the "cab forward" design to give the illusion of internal space, and the urethane-based paint that makes even the paint-coated metal of today's cars look like plastic. I haven't bought a new car since 1989 when I got a Honda and, after I lost it to an engine fire, I've gone back to the oldies ever since.

(5,604 posts)Not crazy about the pale banana colour, but when I imagine the 'perfect' car, thats pretty much what I picture.

(5,604 posts)When I was 16 in the mid-late 80's, a friend of a friend had a gold and white 442 for sale, for $3500. I was smitten, and although I had saved $3000 slinging pizzas after school, when I approached my parents they were not impressed and said "there's nothing wrong with driving our new Chevy station wagon"
About 2 years later I found an excellent condition 1960 Cadillac Eldorado stashed in a rural barn. The body, interior was mint, motor ran; everything else just needed some updating. By that time I had saved enough to buy it ($6000), but no money to upgrade/repair/insure/put gas in the tank. Again my parents said no... the station wagon is good enough for you.
3 days later I was kicked out of the house. Can you tell I'm still a bit bitter 25 years later.

(5,604 posts)After looking again at the way the front fender meets the grille, I think you're correct. I think they different tail lights too, but I'm no expert.

I had a '66 Caprice 396 with an M-20.
It was fun. 9 mpg kind of fun.

(10,237 posts)A appliance white 63 V.W. Micro Bus I bought in 1969 for 600$ . Zero to 60 in under 5 minutes ,the breaks failed at 11 miles per hour and I almost lost my legs .They were true death traps but had some kind of personality .
