Have you ever turned a faucet to a point where the thing vibrates and makes a humming/squeeee sound?
This is probably that.
Is it going on for hours or just a few seconds or minutes at a time?

I would consider calling the owner, super, or other responsible party, or look about for open taps, maybe outside.

(30,947 posts)I was told that was because there is air in the pipes. I haven't worried about it because they have done it for a few years now.

(118,788 posts)Was sitting on the kitchen shelf cause you can never have too many smoke alarms. I undid the battery and threw it out. Now I'm down to only two smoke alarms.

Smoke alarm may still be fine.
Try putting a new battery in it.
When I first moved into my new place, was a cool night so lit a fire
Smoke alarm started "chirping" -
Changed the battery, did a test - it's fine now.
