And now I'm talking about a phone mostly a land-line type that has the classic bell or electronic ring ( not the musical stuff that plays continuously )
Ever notice how certain household noises; like running water in a sink, dishwasher, flushing toilet, HVAC fan blowing ect can, through certain harmonics, make a sound that damn near sounds like your phone ringing, or rather make you think the noise is covering a ring?
Even more maddening: Ever notice that while engaging in some activity in the home and you think you hear the phone ring....and you immediately stop, freeze, and listen intently....and the normal 5 seconds or so between rings now becomes more like....say, 2 and a half decades between rings?
Always drove me up a wall. That is all.

(30,947 posts)I have to check my land line to see if it is ringing.
Drives me nuts!

(60,010 posts)plus....when you decide to not answer, and to let the machine pick up, waiting for that 4th ring and the susequent machine babble until the message is left also takes forever.
As opposed to the nearly instant rush of time when you are waiting for a call
and have to dash to catch the phone BEFORE the 4th ring.
