(72,300 posts)we had the AC in the house fixed yesterday.
Do you want to know why I hate fall? Hum? Do you care that everything beautiful will be buried under mounds of falling leaves ... until the cold of winter envelopes everything with a deadly stillness.

(28,394 posts)I can't wait for it to end. It might as well be winter because you can't go outside in this heat and humidity.
that's just how I look at it--might as well be winter.
I would like to add to the OP's post:
--looking lousy.
There's no point in making an effort to look good. In no time at all, the humidity will collapse your hair, perspiration will wash carefully applied make up into your eyes, the sun will bleach out any coloring you've added to hair, and clothes will be a wrinkled, damp mess.

I can't help it...I take the heat personally.

(332 posts)Altho I do like the long days, grass cutting has been no problem past couple years as again it has totally dried up no rain and it looks like we may not have to mow again till who knows when.
I hate, hate summer at least in this climate use to love it out in the western states but not in midwest, the humidity just kills me!

(62,465 posts)I am not much for big cities.
But their is a snag on moving at all. Her name is Mrs. Rurallib.
Maybe you could talk to her for me?

(55,476 posts)Free health care, and out of all the cities that I've been to who claimed to be "just like San Francisco" (Cape Town, Sydney, Hong Kong...) Vancouver is that city - and more.
They have a huge freakin' wilderness park in the middle of the city! Dense forest!

(2,584 posts)Personal choice would be to move to one of the little towns in southwestern B.C. that can only be reached by ferry. Swooooooooooooooooon.
Unfortunately, I can't afford to do any such thing...and I have heard that Canada does not welcome folks from below the 49th parallel, unless we are either rich, have a job skill which Canada needs, or are married to one of your fine citizens.
Alas, I am none of the above.
If this is not true, pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase let me know.

(2,584 posts)Summer is only fun if I can afford to go swimming in our mountain streams, camping, or to the coast.
Haven't been able to afford any of the above in far too many years (thanks Ronny Raygun, for the tricke-down poverty ). Haven't had a vacation in years. And, we get ever-decreasing work hours in the summer (which would be fine, if I earned a livable income).
So, yeah, come on Fall!

(14,337 posts)I hate the heat, and for me heat is 80 degrees. I much prefer the mid 60s.
However, I do LOVE the long sunny days that summer in the Northwest brings.

(41,694 posts)Mowing the yard, who does that. My neighbor mows my front yard about twice in the spring. Maybe once during the summer. My yard is mostly native grass and whatever can survive TX summers. Completely natural xeriscape.

Riding lawn mower takes care of the grass
No complaints about the sun being out late - saves me $$ in hydro for lights - wintertime up here, it can be dark before 5pm,
And I like it when the sun beams through my bedroom window at 6am - which is more like 9am in the winter.
I agree with the sentiment of being inside with the A/C - that's why I'm here now - beautiful looking day outside, but too hot and muggy to do much of anything out there.
But I still get stuff done - take 10 minute "breaks" outside to do a chore, then dash inside to cool down.
This is the hottest time of year in Northern Ontario - mid July until late August.
September is our nicest month - warm days, cool nights, no bugs.
30 years ago I used to "chase" the sun to get a tan.
No more - I prefer the shade now.
We change.

(3,342 posts)I hate summer because my dog refuses to snuggle on the sofa because he is too hot. I miss that. Once fall and the cooler temps return, my lap dog returns to my lap.
