(54,256 posts)I had lots of fun.
And even a little joy.
Where were you?

(19,089 posts)We had GREAT joy, as soon as we turned off that infernal song and played some real ROCK music ..
Then it was " Katie - bar the door ... we're gonna have some fun tonight!" ...
I was a Lennon fan back in the day ... Once you had "I am the Walrus" in your psyche, Seasons in the Sun didn't even register as music ... my opinion then and now

Adieu, Emile, my trusted friend, we've known each other since we were nine or ten.
Together we climbed hills and trees, learned of love and A B Cs, skinned our hearts and skinned our knees.
Adieu, Emile, it's hard to die when all the birds are singing in the sky. Now that the Spring is in the air
Pretty girls are ev'rywhere. Think of me and I'll be there.
Chorus:
We had joy. We had sun. We had seasons in the sun, but the hills we would climb were just seasons out of time.
Adieu, Papa, please pray for me. I was the black sheep of the family.
You tried to teach me right from wrong. Too much wine and too much song, wonder how we got along.
Adieu, Papa, it's hard to die when all the birds are singing in the sky. Now that the Spring is in the air
Little children ev'rywhere. When you see them, I'll be there.
(Chorus)
Adieu, Francoise, my trusted wife, without you I'd have had a lonely life.
You cheated lots of times but then, I forgave you in the end though your lover was my friend.
Adieu, Francoise, it's hard to die when all the birds are singing in the sky. Now that spring is in the air
With your lovers ev'rywhere; just be careful, I'll be there.
All our lives we had fun. We had seasons in the sun, but the hills we would climb were just season out of time.
Adieu, Emile. Adieu, Papa. Adieu, Francoise.
All our lives, we had fun. We had seasons in the sun, but the hills that we climbed were just seasons out of time.
All our lives, we had fun. We had seasons in the sun, but the stars we could reach were just starfish on the beach.

(41,963 posts)As I said in another post I actually had that Rod McKuen album, in a fit of depression as a teen. If that thing couldn't make me jump off a bridge I am fucking IMMORTAL! (I know the title is taken but still...)

(7,661 posts)when the song came out and my father was a big drinker and perhaps that is why I liked the song and could connect.

(7,661 posts)Terry Jacks tried to clean it up a bit for the U.S. consumer but not by much. Your screen name was and is one of my favorites tunes also. I had a brother who was 15 years older than me and thank God he had good taste in music.

(20,176 posts)It's just maudlin. It's a crappy song written solely to draw a specific emotional response. Why would anybody write a song that seemingly exists solely to make the listener miserable and depressed. I can understand a sad song, but SitS isn't merely a sad song, it's a misery ballad.

(14,275 posts)There are no scientific facts that back up that wild assertion. Birds singing in the sky pose no correlation to difficulty in dying.

(46,179 posts)While I don't LIKE it, it does bring back memories of my misspent youth, so I can't "dislike" it. It's not the quality of the music, but the memories.

I was/am a big Rod McKuen fan.
So sue me.

(56,912 posts)The melody does not suit the lyrics to me at all.
The song you posted in the other thread is much nicer to my ear.

(60,014 posts)when I think of bad music of my youth radio listening, this is always on the top of the list (or is it the bottom?)...right there with the night chicago died, brandy, and alone again naturally!
