i had a crummy day at work and it's going to be a bit before i'm wound down enough to go to bed.
doesn't have to be any topic in particular, but if you ask about my cats or cars, i will bore you to death
just a bit beat down, lonely and looking for company.
hope all is well with my fellow night owls.

(149,683 posts)I just took a shower and my hair needs to dry before I go to bed, at least a little...
I'm sorry you had a crummy day at work...

(24,146 posts)today certainly wasn't the worst i've ever had and i had a few small victories, but it definitely wasn't the best.
the rest of my week is going to be spent playing boss lady since my manager is heading out of town tomorrow. don't know if that's going to be more or less stressful yet, but i am sure i'm going to be ready for the weekend.

(149,683 posts)I know you'll be ready for the weekend...
And if you're busy, it'll get here sooner!

(24,146 posts)friday should be a shorter day at the office, though, since i'm pretty sure that i'm not approved for ot even though my boss is out of town. maybe i should double check that with him.....

(90,780 posts)I'm the same way about needing to wound down before I can sleep; especially after a stressful day.
I'm up for a little while. Just posted the July Photo Contest Winner thread.
I love cats. I had two but they got very old and very sick. After they died I couldn't bring myself to get another cat. Not just then. Now I have dogs.
I do plan to get a cat once we retire though.
What kind of cats do you have?
fizzgig
(24,146 posts)such talented photographers here. i keep thinking about entering, but i don't have a lot of time to shoot and i'm just not that confident in my abilities.
i have two cats, a domestic short hair and a russian blue. the russian is as dim as the day is long and i'm pretty sure she thinks she's a dog. the other one is known as the fat one, although it's more just skin flaps than anything at this point. but they're both wonderfully sweet monsters, even if they drive me nuts at times and really should get jobs.
i've had cats my entire life and just can't imagine being without them. i'm not much of a dog person (too lazy, i won't lie), but we will get one once we have the time, money and room.
what kind of pooches do you have?

(90,780 posts)I've a mini-dachshund and a rat/welsh terrier mix. They're spoiled rotten and control our lives. We're happy with our lot.
Our first furry child was a calico cat. She was my baby. Smart, beautiful, and she would talk back to me if she felt I was being unfair. It was the cutest thing! I miss her greatly. Our second fur-baby was a grey tabby. A feral cat. Our first fur-baby played surrogate mom and they got along wonderfully. Took some time but the tabby got used to us as well. They passed within a couple of years of each other. Our calico was 18 years old when she she died.
I'm often jealous of the talent in the photography group. Not in a bad way though. More like "I wish I could do that..." - and then I challenge myself more. So, it's a good thing. I still have lots to learn.

(24,146 posts)we had one when i was younger, as sweet as could be. we lost her to a respiratory infection that came up out of nowhere, i was heartbroken. we've taken in a few ferals, as well, and they've turned out to be wonderful. i have the two at my house and another three at my dad's. mama kitty turned 16 this spring and the babies just passed their 15 birthdays. longest lived brood we've ever had and i know they won't always be with us, but i can't bear to bring myself to think of it.
i don't know that a life not ruled by some sort of critter is necessarily a good one.
photography runs in my family on my dad's side, photographers the lot of them. i think i have a decent enough eye and am getting better at my composition, but there's a lot i can learn from the others here.

(6,581 posts)Dog had to go out. And I am freezing to death. I left all of the windows open. A stronger cold front came through, it is now breezy and probably 50 degrees outside. Trying to get warm.
Sorry it was a bad day. I know about those. Had a client go all Tea Party on me yesterday, launch into a tirade about the evils of the government and the IRS in particular.

(24,146 posts)i love snuggling down in bed with the kittehs when it's chilly.
that client sounds like a gem, how entertaining was that conversation?
seems like you've been doing really, really well and that makes me happy
Makes me pretty happy, too.

It was great having breakfast with my parrot.
Love to hear about your cats & cars.

(24,146 posts)i finally got to sleep around 2-230 and now i'm up again early for work.
since you asked, if have two kitties that live with me and three i grew up with live at my dad's.
i inherited mira and mia from my best friend in 2005. she was going to germany to study for a year and that has turned into her still living over there. i miss her terribly, but the cats help with that. mira is a russian blue and such a dim bulb, so loving but so dim and i'm pretty sure she thinks she's a dog. mia is my fat cat, white short hair with grey markings that look like cow spots. she's lost some weight and is mostly skin flaps now, but she'll always be fat cat to me. she's pretty sketchy around strangers, but she'll love you if you have a bag of weed in your possession. such a stoner kittie! i love waking up each morning with both of them smooshed up against me in bed. mia will hold a conversation with you while mira generally doesn't say shit even with a mouthful.
my dad's brood is very much full of awesome. i brought sweetie home in 11/97 and she was this teeny, tiny little ball of orange and white long hair. she turned into a supreme huntress and has been the queen of all she's surveyed for many years now. she's smart and sweet. she'll hook her claws onto the side of my glasses and pull my face to hers. but she's also a brat and will gorge at breakfast until she just vomits it all back up, so we have to take the food away from her and then just give her bites throughout the day.
we bred her the first summer we had her (we wanted kittens) and kept two of the four kittens. pearl is a grey and white long hair and was definitely a favored concubine in a previous life. she is voluptuous and sleek and acts very much the princess. she is very independent and isn't interested in affection unless she wants it. there are times i'll go over there and she'll just flat out ignore me for most of the visit. vega has maine coon and calico markings, but she's more of a bear or wolverine, she's so solidly built. the thing about vega is that she was the runt, had shallow hip sockets and was in a lot of pain when she was little. but somewhere along the line, she grew into the biggest of the brood. she doesn't say much (unlike the other two), but is always wanting affection.
i miss living with the brood at dad's. sweetie turned 16 a few months ago and the babies just had their 15th birthdays.
we have a couple volvo station wagons, one of which i used to drive sweetie home all those years ago. that 82 volvo has taken me a lot of places, but decided to drop the drive shaft just as i was getting into the denver airport. i was terrified and have never been so happy to see cop lights in my review as when the cop finally showed up to help. blue is dinged up, rusted and ugly and i never had a problem with her running until a few weeks ago when she flat out refused to start (we think it may be the fuel filter, but haven't had the time to dig into it). sanford is the newer wagon that my dad bought us after we were married and he's been a bit of a problem child, but behaves well enough if there's nothing wrong. i need to buy a couple hundred dollars worth of parts so we can get him fixed up, i want to take him from colorado to illinois later this summer so i can visit my mom. blue has made the journey, but she's just too old to at this point. i am going to be sad when i have to finally say goodbye to her, but i think we've got many years left yet.
i'm glad you had a good breakfast with your birdie and i hope you have a lot of fun with your short day
